Appropriately clothed and ready for fun
Below you will find an equipment list for the winter and summer seasons. This should help you to prepare yourself for your days spent with us. We are governed by a different climate to that of central Europe; therefore observe the relevant section.
We are also very happy to advise you on your personal equipment list.
Winter
During wintertime the temperatures regularly drop well below freezing. In order that you can enjoy your stay and your outdoor excursions it is vital that you observe certain rules when selecting your clothing:
The more layers you wear, the warmer you will feel (onionskin principle). Furthermore, the great advantage of this clothing technique is that you can shed layers if you become too warm during certain activities. Body moisture should always be drawn away from the body as quickly as possible because water vapour molecules have the ability to transport energy across the hydrogen bridge, i.e. to form a route via which the cold can penetrate the skin.
Underwear is therefore a vital aspect of multilayered clothing. Cotton is less suitable here; it is best to use artificial fibres where possible.
The most important role of your outer clothing is to protect you against wind and moisture. Experts disagree on whether down or artificial fibre jackets are best suited for this purpose. Down certainly provides optimum warmth, although it is essential never to wear this type of jacket when wet or perspiring and / or not to take it into a warm room because the ice will melt between the down.
There is nothing more uncomfortable than having freezing cold feet all day. Warm winter boots (one to two sizes too large) are therefore indispensible. We recommend shoes suitable for use down to a minimum -40°C with removable insoles because these can then be taken out to dry overnight with ease.
The fingers are the first affected by temperatures below freezing. Gloves are always a problem and a challenge during extremely cold weather. One should always have mittens (two sizes too large) to hand because these provide the best warmth. Thin gloves, which can be worn underneath, make life easier.
Always wear a hat that completely covers the ears. The most heat lost by the body exits through the head.
Not to be forgotten in winter
- Kitbag or rucksack (not suitcase) in order to pack your clothes for tours lasting more than one day. No larger than 40 litres;
- A warm hat that completely covers the ears;
- A scarf - a snood is ideal;
- Thin, close-fitting gloves with full fingers, which afford interim protection against the cold in case you need to remove the overlying mittens in order to carry out certain tasks;
- Well-lined mittens produced from stable and water-resistant material, large enough that the gloves underneath can be worn in comfort;
- Long underwear from artificial fibres as these are fast-drying;
- Thin fleece or woollen jumper;
- Warm fleece/jacket/jumper or woollen pullover that is large enough to wear on top of the jumper below;
- Winter jacket* that is sufficiently large that additional layers can be worn underneath;
- Warm and comfortable trousers, for example made from fleece;
- Ski trousers* or similar;
- Thin socks. Remember that socks become quickly damp from perspiration during the day - if they have not been thoroughly dried overnight it is essential to spares for the next day;
- Thick socks that can be worn over the thin socks;
- Warm winter boots. We recommend wearing footwear that is approved for use at a minimum -40°C with removable insoles;
- Indoor shoes or slippers;
- Sunglasses with UV protection (from February/March);
- Lip balm;
- Sun cream;
- Small toiletries bag also containing important medications;
- Small towel for multi-day trips.
*We also supply you with an overall free of charge for use during our snowmobile and husky tours.

Not to be forgotten in summer
- Long trousers and long-sleeved T-shirts or shirts as primary mosquito protection;
- Mosquito repellent;
- Sun cream;
- Rainwear that also keeps you dry in the event of heavy downpours.
